REM: certified mail goes European
REM (Registered Electronic Mail) is the European standard that takes certified mail beyond national borders. It's the evolution of PEC towards a common model, defined by the eIDAS regulation, in which a registered communication keeps the same legal value in every country of the Union.
What REM is
REM stands for Registered Electronic Mail, the European standard for registered electronic communications, defined by ETSI technical standards. Like PEC, it provides certain proof of sending, delivery and message integrity.
The highest level of assurance
In Europe, REM falls under qualified services, the so-called QERDS, the highest level of trust provided by the eIDAS regulation: it also certifies, in a qualified way, the identity of the sender and the recipient.
Valid across the whole European Union
Its delivery evidence has full legal value in every member state, without case-by-case recognition, and interoperates among all qualified European providers. Unlike PEC, valid mainly in Italy, it also communicates across borders.
